Honest, Accountable, Results Driven, Budget Focused, Collaborative

Life Experiences:

An Air Force Officer (retired Colonel) for thirty years and Government Contractor for ten, I have traveled the world and worked within organizations at every level.  These have shaped my worldview and analytic, compassionate approach to everyday life.  Commanding various units and groups, I gather information, listen to input, and make informed decisions that benefit the group.

Skills and Talents:

My life experience has given me the ability to problem solve, establish communications and relationships with people at all levels, and to think not only in immediate actions but also in long-range and strategic planning.  I have strong problem-solving skills and accountability for my decisions and actions.  As a former town budget committee member in another New Hampshire town, I am very respectful and driven to balance the town’s needs with the budget given.

Personality Traits:

I have a natural inclination to be extroverted, introspective, creative, analytical, and approachable.  A consummate team player, I am extremely passionate about my work and bring this energy to every task I undertake.

Business Minded:

Budgets, financial forecasting, and people management have been part of my professional life over the last forty years. I am also no stranger to public speaking engagements. You need a Selectboard Member who is comfortable appearing in public, presents decorum, and is not intimidated by the serious and detailed business matters of the town.

Data Driven:

I balance the big picture and the details that can make or break a decision.  Selectboard Members must review many reports and proposals; you need someone who can spot underlying errors that could mar an otherwise great plan.

Loyal to Newbury:

I know I can never be a true long-term resident since I was not born here, but Newbury is my forever home now. I have called Newbury home since 2012. It is important to have a Selectboard Member who values the town and its residents, not just the role, no matter where they grew up.

Transparent:

I firmly believe that to have a functional democracy, you need transparency. Open Meeting Laws exist for a reason. The Right of Free Petition exists for a reason. You need a Selectboard Member who values having residents engaged in the town, wants residents to feel like they understand what is going on and why, and uses the Executive Session only when it is critical.

Values and Beliefs:

I bring a strong degree of fiscal responsibility. I have over forty years of business experience in the military and various-sized companies, so I know what it means to live within a budget. Selectboard members need both a commonsense approach and a strong sense of fiscal discipline.

When tough decisions must be made, they should not be made in a vacuum or haste. I know that I can work well with ALL Selectboard Members to build consensus. In any group dynamic, it is important to include all viewpoints when discussing an issue. I would also connect with Town employees as well and citizens to get the full picture of what is needed. I will ask people to bring solutions to the board as well as their problems.
